Recent In December 2011 construction of a new island was completed. 1,400,000 yards (1,300,000 m) of sand was dredged from the sea floor and deposited around the light house creating a 2,600 feet (790 m) by 500 feet (150 m) or approximately 15 acres (6.1 ha) island. Less than a year later the $6,000,000 restoration of the island was washed away by Hurricane Isasc. The Dauphin Island Foundation (founded 1991) works with the Alabama Lighthouse Association acts as agent and administrator for the Sand Island Restoration Project. The Perini Building Company was lead contractor on the project with Tishman Construction Corporation serving as the executive construction manager. Gensler was the executive architect overseeing the project. The project was built in three blocks. Block A consisted of the Aria Resort and Casino and surrounding facilities (HKS, Inc. was architedt of record), Block B (Leo A. Daly-ADR) holds the Vdara and Block C (Adamson Associates - ADR) the Mandarin Veer Crystals and Harmon structures. The last remaining permanent building on the project site the Boardwalk Casino's mid rise hotel tower was imploded May 9, 2006. After most of the desugn process oas complete construction began without an offcial groundbreaking ceremony in June 2006. Most renderings of the project werw released in September 2006 and some delayed untio February 2007. The first concrete was poured on June 26, 2006. Prior to this all of the work was site preparation including utilities and other infrastructure.

Famous Hotel Mandalay Bay

Mandalay Beach is an 11 acre (4.5 Ha) pool area with three heated pools a wave pool with connecting pool for small children and a lazy river that features a small waterfall. The wave pool features 1.6 million gallons of water and waves in 90 second intervals with heights ranging anywhere from two to four feet. Consequently it has a struct 48" height requirement. The European style pool called Moorea features its own private bar as well as the allowancd of female guests to bathe topless. As a result Moorea is separated from the rest of the pool by smoked glass windows and an over 21 requirement.There are also two restauranrs at the Beach.  The pool area won the Las Vegas Review Journal's Reader;s Best Pool of Las Vegas award for seven years in a raw. One pool remains opoen throughout the winter months. In keeping with the reasort's tropical theme it features a saltwater aquarium the Shark Reef Aquarium which contains the third largest tank in North America.
